Apple Pie
INGREDIENTS
8+ Macintosh apples
½ C or less sugar
Cinnamon
Lemon juice
2 C flour
1 t salt
2/3 C shortening
5 T water
Peel & core apples and cut into thin slices.
For crust sift together flour and salt. Add shortening and mix with
fingers, adding water as needed. Divide dough into 2 balls. Roll
out thinly one ball between wax paper and place into greased pie dish.
Layer sliced apples into pie shell sprinkling sugar, cinnamon and
lemon juice, reserving most for top. Roll out second ball of dough
and place on top of apples. Crimp pie dough edges together and
cut slits around top of the pie. Sprinkle pie with water, then sugar
and cinnamon. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes, until golden
brown. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 30-40 minutes, until
aroma fills kitchen and pie begins to run.
