ARCHES STUDENT PRINT EXHIBITION 2013
Sponsored by ARCHES PAPER COMPANY and THE BOSTON PRINTMAKERS

Location:
The Boston University 808 Gallery, Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA
Opening: Sunday, October 27, 2013

The Boston Printmakers is pleased to announce the 8th Arches Student Print Exhibition. The student exhibition, sponsored by the Arches Paper Company, will be shown in conjunction with The Boston Printmakers’ North American Print Biennial at the Boston University 808 Gallery, Boston. This year, the Biennial and Arches Student Exhibition will be taking place in October 2013 rather than the traditional February.

The first seven Arches Student Exhibitions, held biannually starting in 1999, were a resounding success with participation by 20 – 25 New England art schools, colleges and university printmaking departments.

There will again be student Arches Paper Awards, each consisting of printmaking paper supplied by the Arches Paper Company.  In addition, each participating school will receive printmaking paper supplied by Arches. Arches will be selecting a purchase prize as well. There will also be three $100 awards given by The Boston Printmakers. Additionally, Gamblin Artists Colors is awarding six $100 Materials Awards and will give a donation to each school of several cans of Gamblin ink and a bottle of Gamsol.

Students and faculty have often been successful in selling their work at the Biennial, and are invited to be present at the preview for patrons as well as at the exhibition opening.

The Arches show will include student work from the fall 2011 semester through the spring 2013 semester. Therefore work that you feel is particularly fine, including work produced by graduating seniors, can be submitted to the Arches show in May 2013.  Be sure to put that work aside so that you will be able to access it in the fall of 2013 if it is successfully juried into the show.

Please note that this year we are changing from jurying actual work to jurying digital images. Each school will burn their entries onto a CD and submit that CD by May 1, 2013. Images should be in jpeg format, 72dpi, and no more than 800 pixels or 12 inches in either direction. Instructions on preparing  the CD and the accompanying image list AND the Excel file in which you will create that list, are attached to this email.

Requirements for participation are listed below:

  • The exhibition is open to current printmaking students enrolled in the 2011 fall through 2013 spring semesters at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Each student may submit up to two works in any printmaking medium, including digital, 3D prints, and printed artist books.  Photography or digital reproductions of work in other medium will not be accepted.
  • Jurying for inclusion in the exhibition and awards will be based on the images submitted on a CD.  The jury will consist of members of the Boston Printmakers Executive Board. The postmarked deadline for the CD is MAY 1, 2013.

Printmaking faculty are each invited to exhibit one piece in the exhibition.  Please keep the faculty print size (including mat) to no more than 18”x 24. The 10% commission also applies to faculty sales.

Each school is asked to remit a fee of $100.00, payable to The Boston Printmakers. These funds provide a small part of the costs of handling, installation, catalogue, invitations and other related expenses.  The fee is due no later than December 1, 2012. If paying by credit card, please include credit card information as listed on the attached Participation Form.

Recap of Timetable:
Fall and Spring semesters: photograph all work created since fall 2011 that you want to submit for jurying on CD. Store work so you can access it if it is juried into the show.
December 1: Pay $100 commitment fee to Boston Printmakers and fill out attached Participation Form, sending it back with your payment.
